Summer *CAMP*: A Queer Dance Party
Event Description
Come one, come all, it’s time for Queer Summer *Camp*! What does camp mean to you? Are you pitching a tent & sharing your first queer kiss with your best friend late at night around a campfire? OR are you expressing the spirit of extravagance and the aesthetic derived from the gay community that glorifies kitsch and irony? WE WANT TO SEE BOTH!!!
DJ Jomajesty will keep you on the dance floor all night long. The event will also be hosted by Medusa Chaos and feature dancers throughout the evening.
There is no ‘camp’ without ‘queer,’” says Allan Pero, a critical theory professor at the University of Western Ontario currently working on a book about camp. “It is a crucial, constitutive part of it.”
Camp is an aesthetic style and sensibility that regards something as appealing because of its bad taste and ironic value.
We want to create a safe space with our quarterly queer dance parties, where our community can come together and express who they are with no judgment or stigma. WE TAKE CONSENT VERY SERIOUSLY AND IT IS CONSIDERED MANDATORY AT EACH AND EVERY EVENT! Please remember to be considerate and respect the personal boundaries of others. We will not tolerate any racist, sexist, ableist, transphobic, homophobic acts or language during our events and reserve the right to remove anyone that is causing harm.
