Babe Club Bio
Charleston-based Babe Club make cool-toned synth pop. The band is the brainchild of Jenna Desmond and Corey Campbell: the two met at college of Charleston, and quickly became collaborators. After graduating, Desmond and Campbell joined the Americana act Susto. While playing huge stages and big festivals all over the country, they began to carve out their own sound, ultimately landing on something dreamy, remote, and melancholic. In 2018, the two left Susto to forge their own way. Enter Babe Club….It sounds a little like Phoebe Bridgers meets Gwen Stefani, Clairo meets the Cardigans.
Babe Club started as a rock band. Desmond and Campbell were playing what they knew, taking the kind of music they played on tour and fucking with it. Their 2020 EP Remember This Feeling was recorded in Atlanta at Big Trouble Recording, and with producer Dan Gleason (Grouplove), and engineer by TJ Elias (Manchester Orchestra, Liz Cooper). The resulting EP is urgent, all guitar fuzz and crisp percussion. In Babe Club’s latest musical endeavors, their sound has transitioned to a more intimate and emotionally intense anthemic pop. It’s also more centered on Desmond’s bold vocals.
The band’s latest single “Lazy Lover,” tells the story about being depressed and being in a relationship. “My whole identity was wrapped up in being a musician, that when the pandemic happened I felt pretty hopeless. I felt like a “moldy strawberry”. Once sweet, turned worthless and disgusting. It’s embarrassing to admit sometimes, when life is so precious. Making music with my band mate/boyfriend of 7 years felt different when the pandemic hit” Jenna says.
Following a home town festival finale supporting Shaky Graves, the song Lazy Lover has been featured in Taco Bell’s national TV ad.
Pinky Bio
Two grrrls screaming about angry grrrl shit. The band Pinkie, based in Charleston, is a duo riotgrrrl (punk/noise rock) band that came from a spontaneous idea after coming together and writing the now released single, “Mary Jane”. Lyla Carpenter, guitarist, has made her impact on the scene while she was in Charleston, but is now based in Savannah for schooling. She has developed a growing riotgrrrl crowd in her local scene, alongside Alex (Also known as Temptress), the drummer of pinkie. They both have also worked on projects like magazines about topics like riotgrrrl and local artists, creating a voice for themselves and others, and also more reasons to make art. They are locally well known and a well received band, from, sound, to energy, and to topics they bring to light.
